Day one of the fifth annual Emo Walleye Classic was a smash today, with over 380 pounds of fish caught, and many successful teams coming off the water. Top spot, big fish and big catch for the day was taken by Minnesotans Dave Oldakowski and Sean Westman, with a weight of 9.84 pounds. But locals Trevor Croswell and Bryan Hughes are right on their heels with 8.82 pounds of fish today.

The 5th annual Emo Walleye Classic is off and running -- both east and west! The boats left under a beautiful sunny sky this morning at 8:00, and are hammering the walleye in the Rainy River. You'll be able to see the results live here, updated every minute! And, courtesy of Home Satellite Systems, a live web feed via satellite. You can find it at their web site! The weigh-ins start at 3:30 pm at the Emo/Lavallee Arena -- we'll see you there!

Attention registered anglers: the deadline for making your second and final
payment of $300 for your registration in the 2006 tournament is March 18,
2006. Teams that have not paid their additional $300 by then will lose their
place in the tournament, and that place will be given to the next team on
the waiting list! Make sure you are paid in full by then. Payment can be

Despite a challenging day of conditions for all the anglers, Doug McBride and Steve Ballan pulled off their first win at the Emo Walleye Classic, with a huge total catch of 15.06 pounds, and a tournament-record size single fish, weighing over 10 pounds! It was a wild day at day one of the Emo Walleye Classic. With almost a dozen teams coming back without fish, as well as a five-pound spread in the top five teams, it was obvious that the weather and the high water had an effect on the results today. But Doug McBride and Steve Ballan managed to find the fish when it counted!

Friday, May 27, 2005 10:00 a.m. Braving high water levels, and a change in boat launch, 60 anglers left the shores in Emo to fish in the fourth annual Classic this morning. After a stirring rendition of Canadian and American national anthems by Renee Martin, as well as a welcome by Reeve Russ Fortier, the anglers shot down the river in both directions, looking for the big catch of the day.
